{Ian Hodgson }
Ian was born in Withernsea, North Humberside and spent his formative years in Bradford. Ian graduated with a first class honours degree in fine art from Bradford College of Art in 2000. After which he moved to Brighton where he continues to live, work and exhibit art on a regular basis.
Ian’s unique style and instantly recognisable content has given him critical acclaim all over the country. Famous for his depiction of the male body, fingerprints, mirror balls, plus his portray of architecture has allowed him an almost celebrity status within the south east.
‘The journey to and from the cruising grounds of Brighton seafront provides rich subject matter to work with. Dilapidated Victorian structures punctuate the route, void of purpose. These are now landmarks for other activities; Victorian ironwork as frame, backdrop and shelter for cruising and transient passions. Drawing on fragmented memories, past relationships and chance encounters, my work reveals tensions between risk and desire, power and vulnerability, and intimacy and isolation.’
Ian now has work hanging in permanent collections worldwide.
