Painting has always played a part in her creativity and is now her sole focus. Working with acrylics on canvas and wooden panel, Rothwell’s evocative paintings carve a path between abstract and figurative with figures silhouetted against painterly landscape-like backgrounds.
Transferred images taken from her own photographs of buildings and elements of nature create a tension between the urban and rural, reflecting the industrial moorland environment of her childhood.
