While Darren's work is characterised by drama, humour and the study of relationships, it is the affection and humanity with which he captures and presents his subjects that gives his work such a personal feel and which pulls in and engages the viewer.

His work shows a strong feeling for light and shade. Simplified surfaces and exaggerated forms as well as the intensified highlights, render masses dramatic and mysterious.
