Artist
From being taken to galleries when she was young, Nom’s inspiration comes from Toulouse Lautrec, Frida Kahlo, Gustav Klimt and Chagall. Her characters created in pencil, and oil, live within a mixing pot of magical fascinations of the imagination.
At first glance the pronounced objects within the work stand out; beautiful and distinctive women, instruments, flowers and animals, however within seconds you find yourself captivated by the magic of each individual stroke of oil. The pieces evoke emotions in the viewer that lead you into a world of fantasy, whilst you consider the narrative behind each piece. Nom the avid keeper of notebooks, files them with sketches of girls, who she imagines to have magical lives and to be wandering sorts that are lost in their private worlds whether playing a rusty ballad on a concertina or mixing up dolls in a butter churn.
Nom is inspired by books and cult cinema especially, Issabel Allendes debut novel ‘House of Spirits’ and French film director Jean Pierre Jeunet
