Anna E. Davies ~ Illuminating the Human

Anna E Davies has spent decades refining a visual language that merges the tactile richness of oil paint with the spontaneity of collage, often incorporating dried oil paint and found paper materials. Working primarily on MDF board, she embraces a process of layering, scraping, and reworking the surface to reveal depth, movement, and quiet psychological complexity.

“For me, the painting process is a conversation with the surface,” Davies says. “I build layers, I take them away, and somewhere in that rhythm the emotional truth of the piece begins to emerge.”

Her latest series continues this approach, using collage as both anchor and catalyst. These early layers introduce unpredictability, something Davies believes is essential to capturing the realities and contradictions of the being human.

Davies’ inspirations remain rooted in the people around her and the intimate gestures of daily life. Observations become abstracted through memory, intuition and emotional filtering, ultimately resulting in works that feel universal despite their personal origins.
