The Art of Banksy

Although the artist retains full anonymity, Banksy is believed to have been born in Bristol in 1974.

Taking inspiration from the Bristol Underground Scene, the artist claims that his distinctive style, which combines stencil and graffiti writing, developed out of a need to quickly create large-scale works. Banksy's work typically includes satirical social and political commentary, and ranges from murals to sculpture and installation, often playing with the contextual aspects of the work.

CUT & RUN, is the latest exhibition officially authorised by Banksy, it will reveal for the first time the stencils used to create many of the artist's most iconic works.

“I’ve kept these stencils hidden away for years, mindful they could be used as evidence in a charge of criminal damage. But that moment seems to have passed, so now I’m exhibiting them in a gallery as works of art. I’m not sure which is the greater crime”
